Dear friends, This is my story. I do hope you like it.
THE DECISION
She heard snippets of their conversation as she passed the door which inadvertently was slightly ajar. The mother and son were planning something sinister. She recoiled in fear. She smelt danger. This was it, the final straw.
She tiptoed to the room where the boys were sleeping. She closed the door silently. She sat on the bed, longing to take them in her arms. She gently caressed their sweet faces, kissed them lovingly and ran her fingers through their tousled hair. She wept copious tears.
She thought of the nightmarish situations, the untold mental agony, the violent physical abuse, the false allegations and the public shaming she had gone through in the past several years. She had stoically borne it all for the sake of her beloved boys.
The clock ticked ominously. She had to do something immediately . She called her father. He listened to the agonised outpourings of her gentle heart. His heart ached for her. He swallowed hard and said,” We are coming, be brave dearest darling child”.
She waited. There was hope ahead. She thought of the happy days at her home where she had never known anything other than love.
Marriage was not on her mind when this proposal cropped up. She was holding an enviable position in a reputed organisation and did not want to give it up. She was promised that she could continue with her vocation hence she agreed to the alliance.
Initially everything was perfectly satisfactory and fine. Her husband loved travelling and took her on endless road trips. This irked his mother. She slowly and insidiously made plans and schemes to alienate him from his wife. It worked!
He pressurised her to give up the work that she loved. He reduced her to a housekeeper and caretaker of their pet dogs. She loved to keep a good home and take care of the pets but she also loved to continue with her vocation which was most cruelly denied.
The boys arrived in quick succession. She found happiness again. But it was short lived. His mother stooped to any level to keep her away from them .She went to the extremes of suggesting that her daughter in law suffered from a mental illness and had to be isolated. She was forcibly taken to a psychiatrist to prove mental incapacity but the doctor declared her perfectly sane and well balanced.
Meanwhile her younger sister’s engagement was in the process of being finalised. They stalled the wedding with a phone call insinuating mental illness in the family with the aim of incorporating the rest of her father’s assets.
A loud banging on the door shattered the silence of the night. The alarmed mother and son watched in consternation as she ran to open the door to her parents. She was ready to go with them. She had to keep herself alive for her parents She had to be there for her sons when she gained full custody of them.
